If you’re looking for a weekend away with your significant other, your best friend, or even your mum, Amsterdam is a place worth considering. There is both a mixture of traditional sightseeing and trendy new places to explore. I recommend The Stedelijk, a museum for contemporary art (It’s right next to the Van Gogh museum) and always changing with new artists and artistic concepts.
Don’t worry if you can’t speak a word of dutch because English is spoken almost equally throughout. There are many booming industries in the Dutch capital, it has become a hub for fashion, music, and the restaurant business ensuring that there is a constant flow of tourists who often communicate through english.

If you’re lucky enough to experience Amsterdam in the sun try and go for a walk along the canals in the “Jordaan” area. If you’re after the iconic pictures that are undeniably ‘Amsterdam’, this is the place to go.

Another one of Amsterdam’s trademarks is flowers, Tulips in particular. They are for sale on countless street corners and flower shops. A perfect regional gift for someone at home.

Amsterdam is one of those places you don’t need to plan for. You can walk around for hours just admiring the architecture and dainty places along the way. It’s a great place to escape from the mundane everyday routine and just enjoy what’s in front of you.

The one thing to remember when visiting Amsterdam is watch out for the bicycles!! They’re crazy, go in every direction, and will not stop for anyone… I’ve had good a few near-death experiences. Other than that, enjoy yourself in what I consider to be one of the world’s most peaceful cities.
